SENIOR ART DIRECTOR | ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER 

Juliana Gutowski is a versatile art director who has quickly developed a reputation for delivering sophisticated, boldly architectural creative rooted in a powerful sense of social responsibility. She currently serves as Senior Art Director at the advertising agency Johannes Leonardo, where she works on the global adidas account.

Juliana’s work has earned numerous industry awards, including a recent pair of wins at the 2017 CLIOs, and has been featured in the pages of both top marketing trades like Advertising Age and noted consumer publications like Pitchfork. Prior to joining Johannes Leonardo, Juliana spent years honing her skills at leading creative shops including Droga5, Grey Group, and BBDO—contributing to global campaigns for brands like the Nike, AARP, Citibank, Google, and Volvo. Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself to identifying any and every opportunity to champion positive and progressive social messages in her work, including a groundbreaking, empowering Barbie campaign created during her time at BBDO, anti-ageism work at Grey Group for the agency’s AARP account and Tulsi Gabbard’s revolutionary presidential campaign.

Juliana’s dynamic, solutions-oriented design ethos is defined in large part by her education and early professional experience as a junior architect. At the University of Virginia she specialized in traditional drafting, choosing to create nearly all of her architecture drawings by hand. This painstaking attention to detail is reflected in much of the work she does today, and is part of what makes her an effective and widely beloved mentor to junior creatives. Juliana considers mentorship to be one of her most vital callings, and believes that helping young creatives—especially women—means guiding them in not just work, but also in their careers, personal lives, and emotional wellbeing.

Raised in Warsaw, Poland, much of Juliana’s dedication to mentorship and progressive social issues is driven by her perspective and experiences as a member of the immigrant community. Outside of the office, she enjoys attending concerts in remote locations and working on her line of pan-sexual greeting cards: “From One Bearded Clam to Another”.
